CHAUCER

Chaucer was the real founder of English poetry, rightly called the FATHER OF ENGLISH POETRY. He made a fresh beginning in English Literature. His education as a poet was two-fold part of it came from French and Italian Literature. He made poetry loving and charming. the poetry become famous in people by him. He was a good observer in beginning he gave birth to poetry and gave charm. He gave message of humanity by his poetry. He share his thoughts mostly with common people. He shows the journey of life by his pilgrims. He remove materialism from poetry. He was also known as the king of feelings. He has three periods in his poetry.
  • First period was french period. During this period he imitated french models, the famous and long poem is "Le Roman La Rose" of which he made a translation "Ramaunt Of The Rose". This poem gave an introduction to the medieval romance. He wrote another book "Book Of The Duchess"
  • In second Italian period, he show the influence of Italian literature. During this period he wrote "The Parliament Of Fowls, which contain dramatic dialogue.
  • The third period is English period. In this period he threw off foreign influence and showed native originality. "The Canterbury Tales was a landmark in the history of English poetry, this poetry written by him. We found his gentle and kind humor by his work.
